Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly told US President Joe Biden that Israel is left with no option but to launch a ground operation in Gaza.
According to Axios’ sources from both Israel and the US, Netanyahu stressed the necessity of this move, stating: “We have to go in.”
He outlined that this action represents Israel’s response to the attacks by Hamas and hinted at a prolonged and challenging conflict in the days and weeks ahead.
To prepare for a potential ground offensive in Gaza, the Israeli military has mobilised an unprecedented 300,000 reserve soldiers, marking the largest deployment of reservists in decades.

During their conversation, President Biden raised concerns about Israeli hostages in Gaza, but Netanyahu emphasised the urgency of military action, stating, “We can’t negotiate now.”
He stressed the importance of displaying strength in the volatile Middle East region, highlighting the need to restore deterrence.
Both the White House and the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office have refrained from commenting on the matter.
President Biden did not attempt to dissuade Netanyahu from the ground operation, acknowledging the complex situation Israel faces in the region.

The US President spoke with Netanyahu on Sunday morning, the White House said, and told the Israeli prime minister that “additional assistance for the Israeli Defence Forces” is now on the way to Israel.
There will be more assistance in the coming days, Biden told Netanyahu, according to the White House.
It was their second call since the surprise Hamas attack.
Biden and Netanyahu plan to remain in touch and the two leaders also discussed “ongoing efforts to ensure that no enemies of Israel believe they can or should seek advantage from the current situation”.
