A 10-year-old girl penned a heart-wrenching "letter to Father Christmas " that "no child should have to write". The Big Help Project, a charity based in Kensington, originally shared the letter as part of its 'Dear Santa' campaign, which aims to highlight the struggles faced by families living in poverty during the festive season.

The letter reads: "To Santa, mum told me you are sick this year and you can't come to our house. I hope you get better soon. I think it would make my brother happy! Love Lilly xx (Age 10). PS. We have been really good."

The charity posted the letter on Facebook saying : "No child should have to think Santa is poorly and can't bring them presents. One in 7 children will go without any gifts this Christmas. We are using our campaign 'Dear Santa' to reflect the struggles families living in poverty will face over the festive season.

"This campaign will highlight five different letters to Santa from children living in poverty, as for many, this time of year is not about festivities but survival."

The letter was later shared by charity Come Together Christmas, who are based at Alkafuel Water's shop on Derby Lane in Old Swan, as part of its festive campaign, Liverpool Echo reports. They posted on Instagram, asking for help to support families in need in Liverpool.

They said "no child should ever have to write a letter like this" and were grateful for the donations received so far. The post mentioned: "It's estimated around 1 in 7 children will wake up to nothing on Christmas morning this year and around 24,000 children in Liverpool are living in poverty and deprived conditions."
