The Met Office has issued a series of urgent warnings, as the majority of the UK is set to be blanketed by snow overnight.

And it'll come with deep freeze sub-zero temperatures. The vast majority of the country has already been plunged into icy temperatures today, with -10c recorded in some parts of Scotland, while parts of England hit around -5c. Ice and snow were seen pretty much everywhere, and now the Met Office has confirmed that it will only get worse overnight.

Parts of Cumbria are set to face the worst parts of it, with amber warnings issued as a result of “heavy” snow storms and the “odd rumble of thunder”. It is thought that around 10-15cm of snow will drop before “showers begin to ease overnight”.

Lancashire and Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland have had their yellow warnings for snow and ice extended, with a Met Office spokesman stating: “Showers are expected to continue for much of the day, falling as rain near immediate coasts, but as sleet and snow inland. One to three centimetres of snow is possible at low levels, with two to five centimetres for higher ground. A few rumbles of thunder are also likely, mainly near coasts. Icy conditions will be possible, especially later.”

However, the rest of the country won't escape from the cold, either, with a yellow snow and ice warning until midday tomorrow (December 3) set to impact around 40 different parts of the country.
