Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the US for the violence that erupted in Israel on the weekend.

Speaking on Tuesday, Putin said: “I think that many people will agree with me that this is a vivid example of the failure of United States’ policy in the Middle East.”

The Russian leader was holding a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani focused on the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Tel Aviv.

The US, Putin continued, “tried to monopolise regulating [the conflict], but was unfortunately unconcerned with finding compromises acceptable for both sides”.

While he didn’t spend time to speak about Russia’s own role in the Middle East peace process, Putin further delved into an explanation of what he believes the US has failed to do, which is taking “into account the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people”.

It is very important now that both sides show restraint.”

Moscow, which finds itself in a conflicting situation over the current conflict, said it was engaging in diplomatic efforts to see the parties reach a settlement.

Don’t miss…

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. We see Moscow’s Iranian friends openly supporting those who attacked Israel. And all of this is a much greater threat than the world currently perceives. The world wars of the past started with local aggressions.”

Mr Peskov refuted Mr Zelensky’s claims, saying they have “absolutely no grounds at all”.
