A young woman was allegedly was brutally thrashed, branded with a hot pan and had her ear cut off by her in-laws after she failed to fulfil dowry demands.
The 27-year-old, from Tehri, India, married into the family 14 years ago, who made demands via dowry, a payment – such as property or money – paid by the bride's family to the groom or his family at the time of marriage.
But Preeti Jagudi allegedly didn't hold up her end of the deal, and over the top punishment was reportedly meted out.

Reports in India stated the young woman's entire body was covered in wounds and burn scars.
Preeti's mother, Saraswati Devi, and her brother found her laying unconsciousness in the house of her in-laws after she didn't respond to their calls and messages for two weeks, Times of India reports said.
The woman's mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law have now been charged under Indian law.
"Both mother and sister have been arrested. On Tuesday, they were presented before the court and sent to judicial custody for another 14 days," an official said.
The woman said she had been tortured by her in-laws for the past 10 years over the same reason.
Speaking about her ordeal in the last two weeks, Preeti outlined the horrific abuse she has faced.

She said: "My mother-in-law would often threaten to kill me. My sister-in-law would clamp down my hands while my father-in-law and mother-in-law assaulted me.
"They cut my ear with a spoon, branded my back, stomach, and head with burning pots and pans. My mother-in-law hit my head so hard that discharge is still coming out of my ear."
She added: "They would lock the gate of the house from inside and then beat me inside the bathroom.
"They would gag my mouth so that my screams aren't heard and they would leave me to die out of hunger for days."
An ultrasound of her stomach confirmed she had been without food and water for days.
Preeti has two sons, nine and four-years-old, and one eight-year-old daughter.
