A Walmart store in Thornton was evacuated as a safety precaution after police were alerted about a suspicious package that turned out to be a false alarm.
At about 11 a.m. Thursday, police used dogs to sweep through the store and a parking lot at East 128th Avenue and Quebec Street, according to a Twitter post.
The nearby West Ridge Elementary School, 13102 Monaco St., was put on heightened security as part the precaution. Initial searches found nothing dangerous, police said.
At about 12:50 p.m. police said: “Nothing harmful found” and that a threat made to the store was “false.” Employees were updated by police on the situation and allowed to return to work.
