Protesters "packed like sardines" in a street were seen being beaten and shoved by armed cops.
The chaotic scenes took place in New York where onlooking officers allegedly laughed at the scuffle.
In images and videos shared on Twitter, armed officers in protective gear can be seen pushing protesters on to a path as they chanted "let us disperse."
A Twitter account called protest_nyc tweeted the video and said: "Police begin to mass arrest kettled group at 5th and 8th St.
"Protestors, packed like sardines, are beaten and arrested while onlooking officers laugh."
In the video, the person recording the chaos can be heard saying: "NYPD officers are laughing.
"Protesters are being peddled and beaten in the street, all these protesters have no where to go.
The shocking scenes come as US enters its second day of counting votes in the election, with reports of protests and scuffles taking place across the country.
Yesterday images and videos posted on Twitter showed crowds of demonstrators caught in what seemed to be a brawl at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington DC.
CBS reporter, Christina Ruffini, shared a video showing protestors surrounded in smoke.
She said: "Now people are just fighting. This is not tear gas. Some sort of smoke bomb. Likely not police."
Tensions are high across the nation, with news of Donald Trump supporters also shouting "stop the vote" after barging into a counting hall in Detroit.

An NBC news reporter, Steve Patterson, posted a video on Twitter which showed people banging on glass windows and chanting while workers count.
He said: "From the inside, the heavy thudding of rhythmic banging against the glass after the boxes were taken down.
It also comes as the Trump campaign filed an emergency lawsuit to stop the counting of votes in the key state of Georgia.
