Tattoos released to identify mystery woman as her body is found on beach

Police attempting to identify the body of a young woman who was found washed up on a beach near Brighton have released a series of images showing her tattoos.

A member of the public raised the alarm shortly after 1.20pm on Tuesday, December 20, after he spotted the body lying in water on Saltdean beach, just east of Brighton.

In a statement Sussex Police said that extensive enquiries had been made to try to identify her, but so far these have been unsuccessful.

They have now released photos of a number of tattoos that the young woman had on her arms and legs in the hope that someone might recognise them, and help identify her.

That tattoos include an image of a beetle, a bluebird, a cartoon cat’s face and – perhaps most distinctively – a city skyline with a crescent moon superimposed on one of the buildings.

The woman is white, and would have been aged between 20 and 25 when she died reports Sussex Live. She was around 5' 4" tall and of slim to medium build.

When the woman was found she was wearing a purple sports bra, dark mauve sports leggings and black Converse boots with the original white trim.

It is not thought she could have been in the water for much more than 24 hours before she was found.

Maritime experts say that it is possible she entered the water further west, with tidal action then carrying her down to Saltdean.

Anyone who recognises the tattoos or has any information about the woman is asked to report to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 598 of 20/12.
