A burglar who broke into the home of four female college students and even watched pornography on one of the victims’ laptops has been jailed.

Orange County Superior Court heard this week how, back in October 2018, Jonathan Jose Ruiz broke a window at the young women’s homes and rifled through their underwear drawers, leaving lingerie scattered all over the house, before using one of their laptops to browse pornographic websites.

He also appeared to have viewed images of one of the victims.

A later police investigation found semen on the laptop which was found to have a positive DNA match for the defendant.

The suspect’s DNA was already on file because Ruiz had been convicted of vandalising the toilets at nearby El Modena High School back in 2017, according to court records.

On that occasion he had been sentenced to 30 days in prison, as well as being made to perform 200 hours of community service.

During the 2018 break-in, testified Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department, Ruiz also drank milk from inside the women’s fridge and ate several biscuits before leaving the milk container out on a worktop.

Ruiz, who was 19 at the time, was arrested a few days after the crime and was found to have two pairs of knickers in his possession that had been stolen from the women, according to McMullin, as well as a number of other unspecified items.

Now, aged 22, Ruiz has finally had his day in court.

After pleading guilty to felony counts of first-degree residential burglary and vandalism with damage of more than $400, he was sentenced to six years and eight months behind bars by Orange County Superior Court Judge Gary Pohlson.
