Prince Harry's military titles will not be handed over to Prince William as the Queen does not want to widen the rumoured rift between the two brothers, royal insiders have suggested.
Her Majesty will have the final say on whether the Duke of Sussex is to be removed as Captain General of the Royal Marines, but it is apparently unlikely the honour will be passed to William.
Reported royal insiders fear it could cause even more tension.
One said: "Ultimately, it’s the Queen's decision. The posts are in her gift."
Another added: "Who takes over from Harry is a thorny issue in the family so giving the Queen the final say is the right thing to do."
Buckingham Palace is expected to make an announcement on the Royal Family’s decision in the weeks before March 31, the deadline of Meghan Marke and Harry’s Megxit review.
Hollywood star Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior members of the firm in 2020 following a period of uncertainty in camp Royal.
The couple have since settled down in California with their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and are expecting their second child.
Over the last year, the couple’s position within the Royal Family has been a talking point and Harry, who served two tours in Iraq, was even snubbed at Cenotaph celebrations.
Instead, Prince Harry and Meghan celebrated Remembrance Day at a cemetery for soldiers in Los Angeles, followed by an appearance on a military podcast.
The question of whether Prince Harry has swirled ever since, and reports suggest the Duke of Sussex may also be stripped of other titles.
According to reports, his position as as Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington and Commodore-in-Chief of Small Ships and Diving may be removed.
Royal insiders have said if Prince Harry is stripped of his military titles, who takes over is a "thorny issue" within the family.

Princess Anne – often dubbed the busiest royal due to the number of public engagements she undertakes – is widely tipped to become the military unit's first female head.
However, she already has 33 other honorary military titles, and her younger brother Prince Edward, has been ruled out.
