The Queen will be back at her traditional Christmas residency at Sandringham House this year, it has been reported.

Royal aides are also said to be planning a public appearance from the monarch in the run-up to Christmas, according to the MailOnline.

It would be her first royal engagement outside of her royal residences since doctors ordered her to take a needed rest after a series of health scares in November.

The picturesque private home in the Norfolk countryside is Her Majesty's favourite spot for the festive period, and is where she has hosted the Royal Family on the special day for many decades.

But last year the 95 year old monarch and her late husband Prince Philip were forced to break royal tradition and spend Christmas at Windsor Castle rather than Sandringham.

The usual Christmas Day church service at the location was considered unviable because of the possibility it could have attracted crowds during a period of rising Covid infection.

Speaking about her return to Sandringham this year, a royal source said: "It won’t be a normal Christmas, but like many families around the country, it will be as normal as it can get".

It was reported in November she was preparing to have the family back at the estate after feeling "far better of late", and was "very much looking forward to welcoming them".

The royals usually start their festive celebrations on Christmas Eve, owing to their German heritage.

Old and young members of The Firm alike all meet at the White Drawing Room to exchange gifts and add the very last decorations to the massive 20-foot Christmas tree.

Due to the tension and competitive rage caused amongst family members, playing Monopoly has however been permanently banned at the gatherings by Her Majesty, it is claimed.
