While being dragged by a stolen vehicle, a Pueblo police officer shot and killed a male driver and seriously injured a female passenger early Friday morning, police said.
The officer received minor injuries during the 2 a.m. incident near East 4th Street and Reading Avenue, according to an Pueblo police news release.
The unnamed Pueblo officer spotted the stolen sedan and made contact with the suspects inside the car, the news release said.
“While the details of the incident are still under investigation, at some point the officer was dragged by the stolen vehicle as he contacted the suspects,” the release said.
The officer then fired his handgun, striking both the driver and the passenger, it said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Tenth Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting. It was the Pueblo Police Department’s third officer-involved shooting in 2020, the news release said.
