Prince Harry will be spending Christmas in Los Angeles with a man dubbed his "surrogate dad" – meaning he will not be with the Queen for a second year in a row, it has been reported.

He has grown close to David Foster, 70, husband of Meghan's former school pal, Katherine McPhee, 36, who is his fifth wife.

Last year Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, spent Christmas on Vancouver Island in Canada with their son, Archie.

This year they will be in their new Santa Barbara mansion, and a source explained that the royal family and their traditions are not on the couple's radar.

As it stands, Meghan and Harry would have to self-isolate for two weeks if they arrived back in the UK.

They would also not be able to be with the royal family unless it is within a group of six or lower, according to Government guidelines at the time of writing.

But a source told the SundayMirror: “Meghan very much wants to host the first Christmas at their new home with her mum.

“She’s really excited and is planning on doing all the traditions she grew up with as a child, including the cooking.

“They’ve also invited David and Katherine to spend it with them. David had mentioned Harry and Meghan going to theirs but Meghan wants it at home.

“They want to get on with their new lives. Christmas with Harry’s family is not in the plan.”

Katherine has said 16-times Grammy winner Foster has a “really, really beautiful relationship” with Harry.

She said: “They’re so cute, like father and son”.

David is just one year younger than Harry's dad Charles, who will spend Christmas with the Queen, Prince William and Kate and their children at Sandringham in Norfolk.

Despite their closeness in age, there are few other similarities between Prince Charles and Harry's new Canadian-born mentor.

The record producer was married to Yolanda Hadid, mum of models Gigi and Bella, and appeared alongside them on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, until their 2017 divorce.

He has also been married to Caitlyn Jenner’s ex-wife Linda Thompson.

Earlier this year, a royal expert told the Daily Star Online that singer McPhee's comments about her husband and Harry would have deeply hurt sensitive Prince Charles.

Brittani Barger said: “Charles loves his son very much.

“I think it would sting a little for any parent to hear someone say that their child has a parent/child relationship with someone other than their parents.

“I think it could sting a bit more because Harry and Meghan have stepped back from royal duties and moved to the States.

“Charles always had a plan and place for Harry and his spouse in the slimmed down monarchy, so their leaving, in general, had to hurt.”

In 2011 it emerged Prince Charles was upset to discover that Prince William called Kate Middleton’s father “dad”.

Britain added: “If Charles was indeed hurt when he heard Prince William referred to Michael Middleton as 'dad', then I'd say if he heard this statement, it would sting a bit.“
