Met Office weather warning: Ice and Snow alert as freezing gales from East hit UK

BBC Weather: UK set for freezing temperatures and strong wind

The Met Office has issued two new weather warnings after freezing temperatures and winds continue to batter parts of the UK this week. The UK has seen snow and cold temperatures for the start of 2021, with weather warnings coming in thick and fast over the past two weeks.

Two new warnings are in place for today and tomorrow, one stretching down the east coast of Scotland and England, covering areas from Aberdeen down to Norwich.

The second warning is for Northern Ireland, encompassing the east coast and Belfast.

The warning reads: “Icy patches are expected to develop, especially on untreated surfaces, with showers feeding in from east coasts leaving surfaces wet.

“There is also the chance of some freezing rain, mainly for northeast England, overnight into Tuesday.

“Further snow is also likely mostly for hills above 200-300 m. Some small accumulations are possible with southeast Scotland and northeast England most at risk.

“Here 2-5 cm is possible in places above 300 m and 10 cm above 400 m though ice looks likely to be the main hazard.”
