Melania Trump in search of Florida school for son as family prepares for White House exit

Donald Trump says there is ‘fraud’ in US Election result

It follows news last week that the president’s Mar-a-Lego estate in Florida’s Palm Beach is being renovated to be more comfortable. He and his family are expected to relocate there from the White House next year, though their previous residences were in New York.

The US President is yet to explicitly concede his election loss to rival Joe Biden as he continues a legal campaign against the election result.

Mr Trump purchased Mar-a-Lago in 1985 at a cost of $5 million following a market slump.

He then turned it into a private club ten years later, complete with a private area for he and his family to live in.

Before now, the Trump family’s primary address – outside of the White House – was listed at Trump Tower in New York.

It is now thought that Mr Trump, wife Melania and son Barron, will spend most of their time in Palm Beach after Joe Biden becomes US President.

People magazine claimed last week that Mr Trump’s apartment in Mar-a-Lago will be “expanded and spruced up,” citing a source close to him.

It also cited another source as saying the First Lady is due to “decide soon” on a suitable Florida school for Barron.

Regardless of the high-end lodgings, analysts say Florida is a pertinent choice of residence for Mr Trump due to relatively high levels of support he enjoys there.

He won the state’s electoral vote in the US election with 51.2 percent of the share compared with Joe Biden’s 47.9 percent.

In contrast, the President won just 37.8 percent of the vote in New York, compared to Mr Biden’s 60.9 percent.

A source at Mar-a-Lago told People Magazine in February 2019 that the President “loves” to visit the club.

They said: “No matter what else is happening in the world, he is treated like royalty at Mar-a-Lago.”

Mr Trump has spent over 200 days of his US presidency at the club so far.

Last year, the Government Accountability Office revealed the potential eye-watering cost to the taxpayer of Mr Trump’s Florida getaways.

It studied four of those trips which took place over a month in 2017. It found US government agencies spent $13.6 million in transport and protection for just these four trips.

This money covered the cost of military aircraft and boats, the report, published in 2019, said.

However, it is only a snapshot of whatever the true cost is because the GAO claimed the Trump administration did not provide further information.

Additionally, the money does not cover any expenses claimed by Trump administration officials who accompanied the president on these trips.

Mr Trump has hosted a number of foreign officials at the resort, including Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
