Authors of an unofficial biography on Prince Harry and Meghan have claimed that the couple discussed the possibility of outing the royal family member that made comments on the skin colour of their son, Archie.
Finding Freedom was written by royal family commentators Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand and released in August last year, after the couple stepped back from royal duties.
In the Sussex's bombshell interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey in March this year, Meghan said that before Archie was born a member, or members, of The Firm raised concerns on how dark their son's skin would be.
Scobie and Durand write in their Sunday Times number one bestselling biography that the couple considered revealing the identity of the individual, or individuals, who made the comment.
An anonymous source allegedly told Scobie and Durand “that the couple had considered sharing this detail” but they decided not to.
During the interview with Winfrey, Meghan said the comments were relayed to her after Harry had a conversation with his family.
“In those months when I was pregnant…we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she said.
When asked who made the comments, Meghan remained tight-lipped on the identity because it would be “very damaging to them."
Later in the interview, Winfrey also quizzed Harry on the comments.
“That conversation I am never going to share … but at the time it was awkward, I was in shock,” Harry told her in response.
“[Harry] did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations,” Winfrey later said to CBS This Morning.
