Mans body found in pub freezer had been there years as cops offer £20k reward

A man's body found in a freezer in a derelict pub may have been there 'for years', the Metropolitan Police said, as they offered an increased reward for information.

The body of Roy Bigg was discovered by builders working at the site of a disused pub, formerly Simpson's Wine Bar, on Romford Road in Forest Gate, East London two years ago. Police were immediately called to the scene where they found Roy's body in a basement freezer.

Despite an inconclusive post-mortem examination, Roy was identified through his dental records. He had disappeared nearly 10 years prior, in February 2012, and was believed to be around 70 at the time of his death.

The force is now offering a reward of £20,000 for anyone who can help provide information about Roy's death, MyLondon reports.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: "It's now been more than two years since Roy was found. Although our investigation, and previous media appeals have provided us with information about Roy's life, we still need your help to identify who is responsible.

"Roy went missing in February 2012. We believe that his body may have been in the freezer for a number of years, and that he was aged about 70 when he died.

"Where was he between 2012 and 2021? To date there have been no confirmed sightings of him in this nine-year period. Can you help? Anything you can tell us may prove invaluable in helping us discover what happened."
