I was with my hubby for 17 years and had kids when we found out were cousins

A married couple with three children have made a shocking discovery after taking a DNA test.

Celina and Joseph Quinones from Colorado, USA, had been an item for 17 years and married for ten when Celina decided she wanted to learn more about her family history.

The mum-of-three didn’t get far into her ancestry journey before making a truly earth-shattering find – Joseph, her husband, was also her cousin.

As if that wasn’t bizarre enough, Celina decided to publicise the revelation on TikTok under the handle @realestatemommas.

She wrote: “Married my husband in 2006. Not thinking anything of it we had three kids. Come to find out we were related and cousins.”

Celina then wrote a book about the ordeal and made the tongue-in-cheek quip that it’s “a good ice breaker”. She encouraged other couples to check their own family trees.

The social media clip quickly set the internet on fire and it now has more than four million views.

Unsurprisingly, many people think the relationship between the relatives should not continue.

Celina, describing the “devastating” moment she found out her husband was a blood relative, she said: “This was three kids in that I found out we were related.

“I did my DNA test I think in 2016 and yeah it was devastating because I was like: ‘babe we’re related are we even supposed to be together? This is weird.’ It really freaked me out.”

However Celina and Joseph decided to look past the issue and continue their union.

She said: “I wouldn’t change it for the world… Cousband and wife for life! There is a reason why good couples look alike. I am just over here raising awareness.”

Explaining how they moved past the challenge, she wrote: “My kids and my husband are my everything and we looked past it. All our kids have 10 fingers and 10 toes. It’s a good ice breaker lol.

In a second clip, it becomes clear that Celina and Joseph were blissfully unaware of their close relation and went out for four months before getting engaged.

She said: “17 years with my cousband. No, we didn’t know till we did a DNA test. We had a four-month courtship before we got married. He is still and will be my everything. I ain’t gonna let a little bit of blood destroy what we created, this beautiful family.”

Celina fronted up to those that reacted negatively to her and Joseph staying together and said she doesn’t care what other people think.

She wrote: “Let me divorce him because we didn’t know. Let me just tell our kids their parents are not together anymore because of other people’s opinions.

“No thank you we will just be staying cousins, spouses and lovers forever. Now go throw up in your mouth some more.”
