London-based doctor has quashed ‘common nonsense’ myths surrounding coronavirus as the UK teeters over 74,000 deaths.
In a viral thread on Twitter, Dr Philip Lee, a consultant physician in acute medicine for the elderly, rubbished rumours about the virus.
The doctor started with the presumption that PCR testing returns a lot of so-called “false positives”.
“PCR picks up genetic material, it doesn't tell you whether the virus is active or inactive. It does tell you the virus is there,” he tweeted.
“We use to same technology to convict criminals based on DNA evidence, is that good enough for you?”
In his second point, he took aim at claims that the virus can’t be as deadly as it seems as some people don’t get symptoms.
Sharing comparison pictures of a minor car crash and a horrific, burning disaster zone, he rebuffed: “Well idk both of these are car accidents how come people can walk away from the first one?”.
The third myth to be busted concerned rumours that spread through unreliable sources.
Dr Lee said used the example of somebody whose “boyfriend’s sister works in a hospital” and says it is empty.

The fact-checking physician said: “General rule, if what you hear has already passed through more than two individuals, it's b*******.
"Like that rat's head in a chicken shop that happened to everyone's cousin.”
Cruel trolls and anti-vaxxers have spread damaging misinformation surrounding coronavirus vaccines. They are safe to use and have been regulated by independent watchdogs.
Talking of vaccine side effects, he said: “Yes, of course it does, everything has side effects. Paracetamol has side effects. It's about weighing up benefits (improved immunity to a pandemic) Vs risks (most likely a sore arm and a mild fever)”.
In the end of his thread, which has been shared and liked thousands of times, Dr Lee confronted rumours that the vaccine is being used as a tool “to control us”.
He said: “So is the Chinese government part of the new world order working WITH Trump who is also actively vaccinating people?
“Get your origins story straight at least, cmon. Go read some Marvel comics.”
