Disgusted family leave Pontins camp early after dirty underwear left in room

A disgusted holidaymaker has slammed Pontins after he found grim poo-stained sheets under the stairs and dirty knickers beneath the bed.

Peter Ashman, from Oldbury, West Midlands, claims he was forced to leave early because the conditions were so foul.

The 42-year-old coach driver said: "The place is vile, where is the money spent?

"You would think to yourself that a big place like Pontins would have higher standards because of Covid but they did not seem to care."

Fuming Peter demanded a new room, but the resort was fully booked and he had to check out the next day and book into a local campsite, reports BirminghamLive.

He wants the £249 he paid for him, his girlfriend Kimberley Bevin, 39, and her children Leland, 13, and his 11-year-old brother Alex, to be refunded.

To add to the family’s nightmare, Peter claims the clubroom had a sticky carpet and there was no cutlery or bowls in his self-catering apartment at the Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park in Denbighshire, North Wales.

"I had read reviews and some people were saying how nice it was and they hadn’t had a problem," he said.

"Others said it was horrible, but I’m open-minded and gave it the benefit of the doubt.

"The stench was rancid. It was dated, filthy, and things were sticking to the carpet."

According to Peter, the conditions were so stomach-churning the people staying in the room next door had to go and buy an inflatable mattress.

He went on: "The staircase wasn’t safe, it was slippery, all the handrails were falling apart with rust.

"The sofa bed was torn and filthy. I suffer from a bad back and I couldn’t sleep on (it) because it was uncomfortable.

"When we were wiping under the bed, there was a pair of dirty woman’s underwear which showed that the cleaner had not been cleaning under the bed.

Trading standards have been contacted by furious Peter, who left without a refund.

Despite attempts to contact them, Pontins has not responded to multiple emails sent by Black Country Live for comment.
