Denver weather today: Scattered afternoon showers possible

Some light rain could develop over the Denver area Thursday afternoon after a mostly sunny, warm day before the weekend cold front moves into the area.

The high for the day is an above-normal 84 degrees, and the showers could develop sometime after noon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said there would not be much impact from the storms other than some brief light showers and wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Showers and a few thunderstorms are more likely to develop Thursday in the mountains, and Denver has a better chance of see storms on Friday after the cold front pushes through the area.

Denver has a 40% to 50% chance of storms Friday afternoon and night, with precipitable water value between half an inch to an inch.

Temperatures are still forecast to drop starting Friday to seasonal norms of the mid to high 70s through at least Monday.

Next Tuesday will also have some rain chances and continue to be cool, then warming temperatures will return next Wednesday.
