Denver weather: Chance of showers and thunderstorms remain

Severe weather will threaten northeastern Colorado Friday evening and into the night, including Greeley and along the Interstate 76 corridor from Fort Morgan to Julesburg.

Stormy weather is forecast for extreme eastern Colorado, with thunderstorms out of the south heading north along the state line. Storms could unleash hail, up to two-inches in diameter, and winds of 75 mph. The main threat Friday will be east of a line from Sterling to Limon between 5 and 9 p.m., the weather service said.

A winter weather advisory is posted Friday in southwestern Colorado for areas above 10,000-feet in elevation, according to the weather service. Snow accumulation of up to four inches is expected in the southwest San Juan Mountains with winds up to 40 mph, according to the weather service. The advisory expires at midnight.

Skies over Denver will be mostly cloudy overnight Friday and the low temperature will dip to 53 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust to 32 mph.

Showers and scattered thunderstorms remain in the Denver weather forecast for Saturday and severe weather is again expected on the Eastern Plains.

On Saturday in Denver, there’s a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m., the weather service said. Skies will be partly sunny and the high temperature will be near 75 degrees. Winds could gust to 25 mph.

Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, some severe, are expected Saturday on the Eastern Plains, with large hail and damaging winds. Brief but heavy rain will be possible, along with a chance of a an isolated tornado.

On Sunday, Denver’s sky will be sunny as the high temperature tops out at 77 degrees, the weather service said. Winds could gust to 30 mph. Mostly dry weather is in the Sunday forecast for Denver, the I-25 corridor and the mountains. On the Eastern Plains, severe thunderstorms are once again expected on Sunday, mostly east of a line from Sterling to Akron.

Denver’s weather on Monday looks a lot like Sunday, with sunny skies and a high temperature near 79 degrees.
