Dancing on Ice super fan builds ice rink in own garden to copy the pros

A Dancing on Ice super fan has built an ice rink in her own back garden in an attempt to recreate the stunning moves at home.

Polly Maclennan, 35, says she was inspired by her love of the reality show to take advantage of last week's freezing cold weather in her Gloucester garden.

The BiGDUG employee used materials from work to bring to life her lockdown skating dreams which impressed the home solutions specialists so much that they have launched DIY ice rink kit available to order online.

Speaking about her creation, Polly said: “I was sat on the sofa one Sunday watching Dancing On Ice, which was brilliant as always, and the idea really did just hit me.

“I already knew BiGDUG had the things I needed to make my ice rink happen as we sell pop-up desk dividers from PALLITE®, so when the snow came I just went for it – and it worked!”

The 35-year-old got inventive with desk dividers sold by her employer who were so blown away by her handy work, that the company decided to launch their own.

Proudly sharing snaps of her creation on Instagram, Polly added: "Made an ice rink in my garden so I can copy the pros on Dancing on Ice. Thank the lord for the cold snap at the weekend.

"Just wondering if @dancingonice need a replacement for @vanouten_denise poor Denise she was so awesome!!! Gutted she is out!"

Fellow fans of the show can now order their own without having to be quite so creative as Polly.

Commenting on the decision to launch the kit, a BiGDUG spokesperson said: “Polly is often coming up with weird and wonderful ideas and when she mentioned this one we loved it.

“Being stuck at home with limited entertainment is something most of us can relate to at the moment, so we thought what better way to bring a little fun to day-to-day lockdown life than with a Build-at-Home Ice Rink kit.

"It’s the perfect way to get outdoors and make the most of the weather without breaking restrictions – just don’t go trying the headbanger at home!”
