A couple were left "speechless" after their wedding at a pub was unexpectedly cancelled by its new owner – teetotal Russell Brand.
Stephanie Wareham and Stephen Hare, from Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire, had planned to tie the knot at the Crown Inn in Pishill, Oxfordshire in May next year.
But the couple said an events coordinator told them on November 1, that the boozer was sold to new owners, who had refused to take over any bookings for 2022.
They were left even more unamused after hearing reports that the comedian had brought the Grade 11-listed pub. They claim they originally found out it was for sale after they saw an article online.
Stephanie slammed the comic and said it's "quite sad" that he has been able to get married twice but "prevented us from having one".
She said: "Russell Brand cancelled my wedding is not something I ever thought I’d say.
“You’d definitely think he would have the money to compensate all the devastated couples he’s let down by cancelling their weddings as a gesture of goodwill so I’ll wait to hear from him.”
The couple, who are both 29, said they were initially reassured that their wedding would still take place, but they were let down once they were told that it did not intend to honour any of the current bookings.
The venue sent their “huge apologies” to the couple via email and refunded their £1,400 deposit.
Sadly though the couple are set to lose around £1,500 in non-refundable deposits for other wedding expenses.
They will now marry at a small registry office ceremony in Henley-on-Thames instead.
