Crews are fighting a 60-acre wildfire just west of Fruita that has closed one lane of westbound Interstate 70, according to local agencies and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The McDonald Creek fire is burning near mile marker 3 along I-70, the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit said in a Facebook update just after 3 p.m. Crews from the agency, along with Lower Valley Fire District and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office are working to suppress the fire.
The right lane of westbound I-70 is closed from exit 2 to exit 11 due to fire activity, according to an update from CDOT posted at 3:29 p.m. Slower speeds are advised in the area.
