A mum has been arrested and charged with felony murder after confessing to throwing the lifeless body of her two-month-old baby into the bin.

Ladonia Boggs, 38, from Washington, DC in US, first reported her son Kyon Jones missing on May 7 and told police that she last saw him alive two days before.

Local police and volunteers helped out to search for the infant and on Sunday, May 16 when Henderson Long, an activist for missing people, ran into the mum.

He asked if she would do a Facebook Live video with him and in the shocking interview, Boggs revealed the disturbing truth of her son's death, which she explained what had happened as they slept in bed together.

Boggs says: "The last thing that I remember was that I had rolled over, and he was on my chest. After that, when I was asleep, rolled over, noticed he was unresponsive.

"And after that, a lady called my phone and questioned me about the whereabouts about him, and I got frustrated about the situation about him and the household, and she just was like, 'can she come and take a look at him?'"

She says the woman went to her house and they had a conversation out on the porch but she panicked after that.

"I came back in the house and got a blanket and his car seat and wrapped it up and took it outside and just [threw] it in the trash. And that's what happened."

In a follow-up interview with the police, the mum was said to have admitted that she tossed Kyon's body in the trash while high on PCP and hallucinating.

She also added that she did not know the whereabouts of Kyon's body.

Officers accompanied by cadaver dogs scoured a landfill in Virginia, as well as trash cans, dumpsters, and garbage trucks in the DC area, but the missing boy was not located.

Boggs was released without bond to DC's Pretrial Services Agency following her arraignment on Saturday. She is due back in court on November 19.

Police have not yet located Kyon's body but continue looking for it.
