A popular tourist spot in the Canary Islands has been devastated by a raging forest fire which has caused thousands to be evacuated.ย
The fierce forest fires across the north-east of the Spanish island of Tenerife have caused 3,000 inhabitants to flee the area.
In total 2,400 residents were evacuated by authorities from the town of Santa Ursula as a precaution as well as another 600 from the town of La Orotava, according to the vice-president of the regional government, Lope Afonso
Tenerife, located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco, has already been ravaged by forest fires over the summer. Last month, the fires forced the evacuation of 12,000 people.

Blanca Perez, the councillor in charge of emergencies explained: “The fire is now stable and we are waiting to see how it develops to see if the evacuees can return in a few hours’ time.”
The island has been worsening forest fires in recent years with blazes typically destroying a greater square mileage than previously recorded.
Many have pointed to the warming climate as a factor in the scale of the forest fires.
The Canary Islands are currently experiencing temperatures in excess of 30ยฐC.
