A two-year-old boy accidentally shot himself dead after picking up a handgun while his mum was feeding her baby daughter in the next room.
Leighton Seals was rushed to hospital after he got hold of the nine millimetre Ruger and was struck by a bullet.
The young boy died shortly after midday on Tuesday after the tragic incident in Indiana.
Mum Caci Seals, 22, had been with her daughter just a few feet away at the time.
Leighton's dad Noah Collins was not at home during the ordeal, reports Metro.
An Indiana State Police spokesman said: "Evidence indicates the boy pulled the trigger on the Ruger and was struck by a single bullet."
Doctors fought to save Leighton's life however he was pronounced dead a while later.
An investigation is being conducted into the circumstances surrounding his death.
However, the spokesman added details into the circumstances would not be released.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for Leighton’s funeral, it says: "If you knew Leighton, you’d know that he was smart, funny and fun to be around. He loves his family and loved life."

The toddler was killed on Saturday, after discovering a weapon belonging to a family member and accidentally discharging it on himself.
Tragedy unfolded while the other family members were playing a game of cards when they heard the sound of a gunshot and then discovered the horrifying scene.

Reports have suggested the gun had fallen from the pocket of one of the family members – with the toddler discovering the handgun before the accident took place.
The unnamed boy was rushed to a nearby fire station as the family made a dash for the closest source of help – but he sadly died of his wound when they reached the building.
