The forecaster shared the latest UK weather maps with BBC Breakfast on Tuesday and warned “cloudy and cool” conditions are on their way to the UK. A weather front moving in across the North Sea is expected to provide the moisture, which in turn will trigger light rain and drizzle for swathes of England. Carol Kirkwood also suggested that pockets of England, mainly the southeast, will see some clearer skies with the chance of temperatures to rise towards the end of the week

Kirkwood told BBC Breakfast: “That is the story for the next few days – limited amounts of sunshine.

“So a lot of cloud this morning, breeze coming from the northwest dragging in this moisture from the North Sea.

“And it is producing some light rain and some drizzle.

“The rain across the north of England pushing to the southeast and clearing.

“So here later we could see some afternoon brightness as we could across parts of the west country and also southeast Wales.

“Move north and through northern England some breaks in the northeast, apart from that it is going to be cloudy,” continued the meteorologist.

“Cloudy and damp across Northern Ireland at times and the same across Scotland.

“Though eastern Scotland and Shetland could see a little bit of brightness through the course of the day.

“Temperatures about 14 to 20 degrees.”

She added: “Now through this evening and overnight we hang onto a lot of this cloud, we will still see some patchy light rain and some drizzle.

“We will also see some more rain coming in across Shetland.

“All of this means it is not going to be a cold night.”

“Most of us staying in double figures.

“With our overnight low between 11 and 15.”

“Now into tomorrow once again we are looking into a fair bit of cloud, rather like today, it will break in the shadow of the mountains so eastern Scotland, northeast England, East Wales for example.

“Temperatures about 14 to 21 degrees.”
