Last Wednesday, the Prime Minister announced – at a Downing Street press conference – that he will be fully enacting his Covid ‘Plan B’ to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed by the pandemic this winter. In the past week the UK has recorded more than 50,000 new daily cases six times, and yesterday alone reported 58,194 cases.

On Tuesday, MP’s will vote whether to support Mr Johnson’s latest Covid restrictions, which have been introduced to help slow the spread of the new variant, Omicron.

As part of the measures, it is now mandatory for people to wear masks while in most indoor venues – including theatres and restaurants.

The Government is also reintroducing its guidance from this Monday (December 13) for people to work from home where possible.

Moreover, from next Wednesday (December 15) anyone looking to enter some indoor spaces – including nightclubs – will need to present a NHS Covid Pass.

When the rules were introduced to the House of Commons, earlier this week, there were audible jeers and groans from MP’s – many Conservative backbenchers – who disagree with the need for more restrictions.
