Jeremy Corbyn’s exploded into a furious online rant about ‘Left Out: The Inside Story of Labour Under Corbyn’, a book written by Times journalists surrounding the Opposition party’s transformation and historic defeat. The former party leader used The Morning Star’s Zoom conference on ‘Labour and the media’ to let loose.

Mr Corbyn told viewers: “Those people that are now being paid a great deal of money to write books analysing the past five years, what do they concentrate on?

“Who said what to who, who got the coffee for who and where, who paid for the hotel room for x, what happened to why?

“Tittle tattle, tittle tattle, tittle tattle..

“Gossip passing off as political comment, passing off as if it is a serious analysis – it’s not.”

He added: “Those people that have written these books, and they know well who they are, have completely failed to address the real issue.

“The real issue is the power structures in our society and the way in which the very powerful, the very wealthy, teamed up with the most powerful and well-resourced media to attack the Labour Party and the individuals within it.”

Despite coming close to victory in the 2017 snap election, Mr Corbyn’s party floundered in 2019.

A post-election Labour report concluded it was a toxic combination of an unpopular leader, confused message on Brexit and a manifesto rejected as fantasy.

The former party leader was also critical of claims his general election campaign may have been influenced by Russia.

In July 2020, the British Government accused Russian hackers of seeking to meddle with the UK’s 2019 general election.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab also revealed there was evidence the documents on UK-US trade discussions that were used by Labour in December had been leaked by Russia.

Mr Corbyn told listeners: “I stand by that document and I believe it to be absolutely the case.

“Indeed everything that’s happened over the past three months has proven that to be the case.

“What did most the media say about this? They didn’t say, ‘well Corbyn’s on to something here, this is a serious question, this is an issue that’s got to be addressed’.

“No they decided that somehow or other the documents have been given to me by the Russians.

“I was really puzzled by this. I met no Russians, I spoke to no Russians, I speak no Russian.”
